Here are the ground transportation options available at the Varadero Juan Gualberto Gomez International Airport (VRA) in Cuba:
Chartered Shuttle bus:
Most tourists arriving in Varadero by air already have the transfers pre-arranged by a tour operator and included in their vacation package. If it's your case, then when you exit the terminal you will be greeted by your Tour Operater representative who will show you which shuttle bus to board for the transfer to your hotel.
Taxis are always available directly in front of the terminal. A taxi ride from the airport to the Varadero resorts area cost approximately 25 CUC to 30 CUC one-way (equivalent of $25-30 USD). Always agree the fare first, some taxis have meters but they are rarely switched on.
There's no bus station at the airport but there's a VIAZUL station in downtown Varadero (on Calle 36, intersection Autopista Sur). Every Cuban car rental companies can be found at the Varadero airport: Cubacar, Havanautos, Rex and Via Rent-a-Car Transgaviota. Booking in advance is recommended, especially during the high season when the demand for rental cars often exceeds the supply. Prices vary from approximately 50 CUC to 125 CUC per day depending on car category and time of year. Insurance is mandatory and usually costs 15 CUC per day.
